Thailand's sugar production to fall by 20% in 2023/24 and expected to return to 10 million tons in the new season, attached

According to foreign media reports on September 23, Wirit Wisesaint, an official of the Thai Sugar and Cane Board, said in an interview with reporters on Monday that Thailand's sugar production decreased in the 2023/24 crushing season by only 8.8 million tons. However, Wirit said that Thailand's sugar production is expected to be 10.39 million tons next year (2024/25 crushing season), an increase of 18%.

Thailand is the world's second largest sugar exporter, after Brazil, in terms of annual sugar exports. Thailand consumes about 2.5 million tons of sugar per year and exports the rest.

The Thai Cane and Sugar Board previously predicted that sugarcane production would increase in 2024/25 due to a rise in sugar prices in early 2023/24 and some farmers switching from cassava to sugarcane.
